NEW YORK — Viagra maker Pfizer Inc. is selling the drug for as long as Pfizer says it sells it for as little as $5 per pill.
In an effort to lower prices, Pfizer is selling the erectile dysfunction drug, which is already available as a prescription, for as little as $5 per pill.
Pfizer is also negotiating a 30-day supply deal with Teva Corp. to sell the drug for about $1 per pill.
In other words, Pfizer will have to pay the same amount that a $5-pill bottle of Viagra costs as a bottle of Cialis costs about $5 a pill.
The deal was announced by Pfizer CEO Ian Read in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the largest drugmaker in the world. Read also gave Pfizer a controlling interest in the drug and said the company's plan to lower prices will be "very similar" to the company's deal with Teva.
Pfizer has been selling Viagra as a generic for about 20 years.
Viagra is a popular drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, which is also a medical condition characterized by painful erections.
It also is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, a urinary problem that may be caused by prostate enlargement.
Viagra also treats pulmonary arterial hypertension, or high blood pressure in the lungs.

The company is also marketing the drug for use only in males.
A spokeswoman for Pfizer said the company was working with its distributors to find an exact and affordable generic version of the drug.
In addition, the company has agreed to pay $250 million to resolve drug patent lawsuits against companies, including Pfizer, in the United States. The lawsuit claims Pfizer and Teva were misleading consumers and companies about the potential for increased prices of the drug.
In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration announced that it would add a warning that the drugs "may increase the risk of cardiovascular events and increase the risk of stroke or heart attack in patients with cardiovascular disease."
The FDA also has warned that the "risk of cardiovascular events may increase in people with certain heart conditions," including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.

Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.
Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction.
